On the first anniversary of the ANT.E Blog, we want to reflect on research approaches in global legal history and think about how to develop them further for the future.
How can we productively decenter the discipline’s discourse and initiate a true conversation between the different perspectives from which legal history is written?
We will also discuss what global legal history can contribute to a globalized present increasingly faced with conflicts and fragmentation.
And we will explore how we can use blogs and other modern formats to make a true difference for the discipline of global legal history – in communication within the field and with a broader public, in interconnection, knowledge production and diffusion.

Our mission from the start has been to encourage engagement and highlight underexplored knowledge. For this, we offer an interactive platform and forum to connect and start a conversation between knowledge from and of different parts of the world.
Our blog was inspired by the 2022 symposium “Legal Orders Under Pressure”, which sparked our initiative to expand the symposium’s insightful discussions and invite a wider scientific community to engage and contribute.
In our first year of blogging, we published several colloquies – collections of thematically related articles, accompanied by commentary – exploring questions around transnational transformations of law that emerged from the 2022 symposium.
Become a Colloquy Organizer
Looking forward, we are opening up our blogging process: If you are a researcher or team of researchers with findings to share, and you feel that our format would work well for you, we welcome your proposal for a colloquy.
As colloquy organizer, you will take the lead in discussing your proposal with our publishers, assembling articles and commentary from your chosen contributors, and ensuring delivery of the contributors’ texts to our team.
Our publishers will provide feedback for revisions in an expert review process. Then, our editorial team will provide support with linguistic editing, proofreading, formatting and image selection to ready your colloquy for publication on the ANT.E Blog.
